Travis is also not even as bonafied as Kanye. Travis is from Houston, a city with the lowest black gang activity of any major top 10 urban area. Growing up as a middle class black person there just means growing up with the white kids. Chicago where Kanye is from is different. Chicago is so gang-infested, black, white, mexican gangs and everything in between, that you can grow up totally middle class there and still end up in a gang. Kanye absolutely probably knew some gang members growing up. Travis almost certainly didn't. Most of the OG Houston rappers Travis namechecks were also not gangsters, just guys from the hood who hustled, sold weed, or drove trucks and rapped on the side.
