It feels a bit like they are trying to do with Shota what they did with Yuya last year (loses a hair match, comes back no nonsense and highly competent) but I worry that the difference is that Yuya is able to look half a step away from prime Steamboat while Shota looks like extreme discount Ishii. Unlike some here I am not anti Shota and I want him to find himself, but this doesn't feel like it yet.

Both are legitimately talented shoot wrestlers who also have incredible comedic timing and can tap into that part of Japanese comedy that most guys struggle with. My point isn't that either path for GOK is bad, my point is that they should probably commit to one (with occasional callbacks to the other, like how Yano became a comedy guy but would generally wrestle one "pure" match per G1 as a comedy bit in itself but also to prove he is still credible) instead of trying to split the path. I do feel like his arc over last year with the KOPW stuff was setting him on a journey of being a serious guy, but I still worry.
