Insecure wrestling fans. Wrestling never became ashamed of gimmicks. No matter the company, wrestling actually doubled down so much on midcard-tier gimmicks that they forgot to make stars and consistently have to rely on wrestlers from 10-15+ years ago to carry the programs - and every once in a while someone who got lost in the shuffle in 2008 will finally become a main eventer at the age of 42.

The story with him rapping on the bus in front of Stephanie is pretty crazy, I'm sure it's been retold in WWE-speak over the years and maybe he wasn't like on the verge of getting fired, but as a little kid that character was so much cooler than everything else on those shows.
