>>17314806Dave takes an odd route in his decision to lean heavily on WWE's success as some sort of defense of AEW.
And it is a disingenuous "con man" tactic to imply that AEW, "the most financially successful No. 2 group in history," has ever reached the heights of success that WCW did at its peak. Only one of those two companies can say they were the #1 wrestling promotion in America for a period of time. AEW's distinction of being more "financially successful" owes more to the radically altered landscape of the American entertainment industry. WCW didn't exist in a time where the demand for content exclusive to this or that streaming service could lead to an easy and lucrative deal, and it died just before it could capitalize on a number of potential online revenue streams. A heavily funded promotion like AEW that peaked shortly after it launched can benefit from the variety of new means of generating revenue all the while showing no signs of growth. If Dave can explain this context to his dirt-sheet subscribers, and admit that AEW has never created anything as popular as the nWo, he will cease to be a con man and it would no longer make sense for him to pretend people watch Collision on MAX.
