I wouldn't even call ROH a B-Brand at this point. It's more like the D-Brand. It's a zombie fed that just churns out random, heatless matches every week, then they do like 2 or 3 PPVs a year full of more random matches, but for some reason these matches are more important just because they're on PPV. Tony doesn't even do anything worthwhile with the tape library. Just let it die already.

This doesn't stop or end with ROH though. You want to make ROH come across as valuable? Maybe don't take the belt being held by someone for 800+ days and have someone not even on the brand be the person to beat them and then just throw that belt in a pile with a bunch of other no-name indie ones. Because doing that is about the last way to make ROH seem important

The point you're missing is that moment isn't about Athena. She's had the past 800+ days. The point I'm making is whoever beats her, even if it's just ROH, has a chance to have a big moment out of that. For a Billie Starkz or Harley Cameron type of name winning the ROH title and especially off of someone who's clearly been established as a formidable champion like Athena would be a career booster. Instead we're going to waste the potential payoff of over two years on... a belt mark who already has more belts than she can make seem like they matter. Even more bullshit about it is she's got her own writer to throw around whatever creative she wants that I can't imagine people can all too comfortably push back on either

I really don't know how Tony managed to convince Athena shuttling her off to ROH and never putting her on TV was going to make here "The Face of ROH," and somehow better than being on actual television and booked on Dynamite. Does she have creative control over the rest of the women's division in ROH or something? What's the point of having an 800 day championship reign if no one is watching it?

Of course she's not going to put anyone over. She picks and chooses all of her opponents to the point that they have to fly them in from Japan because she refuses to work with most of the women in AEW.

Mercedes in AEW was never about elevating the women's division. It's always been about having her own little sandbox where she doesn't have to job to anybody. The whole reason she left WWE in the first place was because she refused to job to Becky Lynch and Asuka, who are both significantly bigger stars than her. The only smart thing Tony's done with her so far is kept her the hell away from the AEW Women's Championship because she's going to hold that belt hostage for years if she gets it.
