>>17395215...Because doing two babyfaces, one of which hasn't even come close to Cody's level, would be an antidraw for Mania.
My second other reason would be the surprise appearance of Alexa Bliss, whose appearance was apparently so well guarded that no one expected it, hence the huge pop. Which is nice, until you hear that weirdly out of place kayfabe breaking commentary by Michael Cole of talking about how "the dirtsheets said this wasn't supposed to happen" or something to that effect. So at least to me, the idea is clear: WWE, H or Rock wants to swerve the audience purely for the sake of it. Not out of creativity, but just for money. Ironically, this is also something Vince did a lot, and most of the time it was never good. And having the fucking commentators talk about how they swerved you just feels more petty and childish than anything.
Anyway, we can now infer that Jey winning was mainly for shock factor. But there's the problem: what the fuck is Cena gonna do? The "storybook" method would be that Cena, this great aged hero, won his chance at the actual event that matters, the Rumble, to get his chance to beat Cody, win 17, call it a day. But that didn't happen. So obviously the next idea is how the fuck do we get our top draw that has an objective time limit to face Cody so we can squeeze out more money. Cena appears at the conference, says he's entering the Chamber by default, no trying for it, says it's "best for business" and bounces. It was right here that people started speculating the heel turn because of how abrupt and serious and self centered it sounded, and it was pretty damn obvious coming from a mile away. The question then was how they were gonna justify the heel turn.
Time passes, Jey appears on SD and Raw and gives some back and forth bullshit on who he'll be fighting when he will obviously be fighting Gunther because not even current WWE is that retarded, but it makes the time spent on promos feel wasted...
