Part of it is also because back then it wasn’t uncommon for men to smash 12-15 year old girls, and whilst it wasn’t legal it was just accepted as a social norm and wasn’t policed at all. My Boomer Mam would be the first to tell you she’d have let Gary Glitter hit when she was that age. The entertainment industry is always full of nonces but back then they didn’t even really hide it. Through a modern lens we now see the men from that generation and how they look and they immediately set off alarm bells because they were all at it and we know that now. They are the archetypal paedo. Try watching any 70s sitcom and it’ll be the same. They all look like dirty old fuckers.
Genuinely would be quite interesting to know what, in the future, the generic paedos from this era will be defined as looking like.
