You don't get "Oh yeah, we decided this camera angle here, we did this lighting technique, Adam Driver really played up this this and this." and then the next time you go to see that same play, they pull the rug out from under you in order to gloat about YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW SHIT YOU STUPID MARKS in a spiteful way.
And yes, "subverting expectations" exists, but it should be done in a good-faith way to entertain and surprise the audience. In wrestling it's done with such a layer of spite ("how dare you make this difficult for us to fleece you of money. Here, you don't know what you want, you'll watch whatever I put in front of you") that it's not the same.
