Took advantage of being one of the few to focus exclusively on wrestling which has far the most gullible and stupid fans of any community, mostly because he can't cut in anywhere else. I would love an alternative timeline where Meltz changes nothing about his reporting style but is instead in the MLB, NFL, or NBA. He would be the single biggest laughing stock of the league.

He was a passionate obsessed fan and wasn't trying to "cut it" in anything. Most newspapers didn't cover wrestling and the wrestling magazines were months behind. Some super fans would communicate by mail letting others know what was going on in other territories. Meltzer was doing this before graduating college and with the rise of VCRs and tape trading it grew even more and his hobby became something he could expand and charge for. There was no underground scene like it for NBA news and such, because there was no need with newspapers, Sports Illustrated and eventually ESPN and everything else.
