this isnt unique to wrestling. a remaster of oblivion just sold millions and revenge of the sith just made like 50 millino from a re-release. the world is so terrible that grown men just look at what they liked when they were young and to remind them of when the world wasn't a despotic hellhole yet.

I think it's moreso that there are just more weirdos and fat fucks in general in society now. Look at this picture from World Class, probably around the mid 80s. It's just normal people. If this shit happened now half the crowd would be 300 pounds and gay.
Though yeah I don't think we gatekept hard enough but I think it was inevitable. It was over for good once AEW became a thing and worked towards getting goodwill with fags.

Ironically I switched from MMA to wrestling when I discovered it. The scripted nature of wrestling is just more entertaining to me. Not that I never watch UFC anymore, it just isn't as fun as it used to be to me for some reason.
Of course I'm not a normie at this point.
