Probably. But he hit his stride at the right time in 2005 and was dimes back then too. HHH was actually my favorite at the time and I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to end his reign of terror, which is unironically why quite a few people like(d) Batista - because he was the one to do it.

Pretty much after his initial return is when he lost some of his shine. Much slimmer, slower to work, gave even worse promos (basketball) and didn't have as many good feuds. Vince never knew how to book him, but you can say that about 90% of any era of WWE he was involved in.
