It's fucking based. In kayfabe the logic is the title only gets taken in a clean manner, with someone clearly besting someone else. For bookers it gives you tons of fuel to work with, back when long term survivability was considered (before the corporate money vampires took full control) you could milk a heel champion DQing himself to retain for months.
