The problem is most Americans don't want to see "respectable" fake fighting (WWE). Nor do they want to see Fantastic Acrobatic Cheesiness Theater 3000 (AEW). The paradox of pro-wrestling is that it has to be a trainwreck but it can't be the type of trainwreck that's so cringy no one even wants to look at it.

Because the wrestlers became unappealing and so did the booking. Normal people want to watch charismatic freaks of nature beat the shit out of each other in a simple but well executed male soap opera. Modern wrestling is full of offputting geeks with no charisma fighting for boring reasons in poorly executed storylines. That's why normies noped the fuck out.
