The problem is starting premises. If someone starts with a shitty premise, they're invariably going to reach shitty conclusions. Throw in some emotions in reaching those conclusions instead of sound reasoning (and both sides do this), and otherwise smart people can back some very stupid and shitty things.
If we want to fix things, people need to stop treating people as labels and learn to talk more and actually listen. In the old days we had to do it. In this Internet era, it's easier for everyone to live in echochambers so people do it less. That's why everything is so divided in ways it rarely was in the past.
But talking and listening takes effort from all involved. It's also the only way to fix the current predicaments we all find ourselves in.
