Nash started when he was 30. So he had actual life experience doing shit. Wrestling even then was full of yokels, failed athletes, and literal retards, so it was easy for Management to control. Nash came in with enough experience to know his worth, and treated it as a job, because that's what it was.
It's not about being "smart" like you said, it's that he's someone who already lived some life and could see that most of what management said was bullshit.
