It's likely that Steve Austin would've just bounced around from company to company as a midcard nobody if ECW hadn't been there to give him a platform to launch his Stone Cold persona. How would this have impacted wrestling as a whole?

Bret Hart would have tanked WWF and eventually removed by whatever arrangement of Kliq guys were still around, Vince would be forced to pay out Bret a huge sum of money and Attitude would have never taken off, WCW might still be around but I think eventually even if they won the war Turner brass would have cancelled all of their programming with the AOL merger or it's eventual collapse. That just leaves Paul Heyman who would have still bankrupted ECW but he'd probably have moved on to building a southern promotion while Japanese wrestling continues on it's way not really gaining any huge traction but being overall more successful than it is now. Somehow Double J and Jeff Jarrett would be in the mix.
