If you remember the absolute dire selection of under-30 talent that was even available to sign in 2019 it was clear he was the right guy (at the time) to try to build into their first homegrown main eventer, even if he took literal years to become good.
MJF and Darby also eventually cracked the main event but Hangman is like 4 inches taller than those guys and even in a vanilla midget fed that counts for a lot.
