This very deeply and personally hurt Dave, who then spent around a year calling Cornette out of touch and delusional about what will be a success with modern day wrestling fans which eventually led to them both hating each other.
Part of Dave's obsession and insistence with AEW being profitable and successful is his autistic fixitation on proving Cornette wrong.
