Yeah, it definitely wasn't just greed. George was openly bitter about how much fans bashed him over the prequel trilogy. His exact words after selling Lucasfilm to Disney were "you won't have George Lucas to kick around anymore" iirc. They crushed his spirit so he crushed theirs right back. Which is based as fuck.
