I feel like he considered the alternative where he kept paying her off until he died, then she comes out and accuses him to get more money than what she was getting. Similar to those two guys who accused Michael Jackson years after his death
Vince probably refused to pay her anymore while anticipating her going public, so he could at least get a chance to actively defend himself and control the narrative while still alive
