Yeah I'm not sure what the dunk here is, his 99-01 heel run was literally his career run, even his biggest detractors usually give him that one as business was undisputably hot. He was a great villain. Problem was when the likes of Austin and Rock got out of the picture, H was 'the guy who works with the guy that draws money', not the guy that draws it.

He has already said this countless times over the years. I don't see what is controversial about it. He said he saw a spot for a top heel so decided to go for it. The Rock had just turned babyface so the only big heel left in the company was Undertaker at that point so he was right. Rock and Austin would have had nobody to go against. They really needed heels in 1999

I'm not giving him 1999. I did not give a single fuck about trunks era HHH until the hardcore match vs Cactus Jack at Royal Rumble 2000. The only 1999 HHH match I actually like is a title defense vs Billy Gunn that was good for a Y2K-era Raw match.

Austin was Injured, Big Show began working at the company early on for a push to happen, Rock became a baby face, As Mankind/Foley, and WWF needed a heel, also Steve Motherfucking Blackman and Ken Shamrock were on their last year of contract.

There's not a single thing wrong with what he's saying. Maybe called Rock a white meat babyface but apart from that the general idea is true. Foley was a face too. Kane was about to be as well at that point. Undertaker was on his way out for a while. The people in D-X were becoming too big for the group itself, especially Triple H and Chyna. Factions only work when the sum of its parts are greater than the individuals. It worked in 98 when you had European title guy Triple H and Chyna before she got over and X-Pac just coming back and the Outlaws. Fast forward to Mania XV and it's a different conversation. Even if the latter three didn't benefit from it, Triple H was MORE than ready to move on if it wasn't outright necessary for him to do so

Yes they were, Triple H turned heel at WM15 to join the Corporation. Rock's face turn though was after Backlash 99. DX became heels (again) when they reformed in September/October 99.

In 1999, WWE desperately needed a top heel, especially since Austin was going to be out with neck surgery,so they rushed Triple H into the position during the Summer, but he didn't get over at all. It wasn't until late 99 - early 00 that he became a credible top heel. His first title reign sucked because they rushed him to the position

Taker was still around when he won and lost his first WWE title. It's not until the Smackdown where Triple H had to run that 5 match gimmick gauntlet to get into the 6-Pack Challenge at Unforgiven for the vacant title that Taker "walked out".
