Say what you want about the NE era and its cartoony gimmick shit, but at least the wrestlers stood out. It proves that gimmicks are generally better than non-gimmicks
People might mock Bastion Booger, Mantaur, Doink, Duke 'The Dumpster' Droese, The Goddwinns, The Goon, Repo Man, etc.....but at least we still remember them after all these years
95% of all these gimmickless CAW "John Smith" wrestlers that passed through WWE in the past decade will be completely forgotten

I don't even watch their show yet I've heard her mentioned multiple times even outside of this board
Gimmicks don't always work out for a wrestler but when they do, they work really well

They had a lot of talented wrestlers, just the booking and creative wasn't good.

There was also a lot of people from that era who had Vince Derangement Syndrome or just hated Vince for killing their local promotion and hated everything WWF did because of it. Unfortunately, those people were often the loudest voices in the room for a long time.

I was a kid during NG era but I wasn't watching much at the time. I fell off around 1991 and only watched randomly until 95-96 when it got good again. New Generation era is just great in hindsight because by comparison to today's product the roster was fucking stacked, the show was actually "raw" and interesting things were happening. At the time it felt like a huge downgrade from mid to late 80s era, but it turns out it was still infinitely better than the slop we're getting today.

You mean Bret "The Hit Man" Hart and Shawn Michaels "The Heartbreak Kid"? Because those were still gimmicks which kept them going for years. Bret never lost "Hit Man" even if HBK was mostly Shawn Michaels (or Mr. Wrestlemania) by the end

No one in particular was a draw/main attraction. You just went to the show along with your kids and enjoyed all the different characters and the PG entertainment, along with a few thousand other persons instead of a couple dozen/couple hundred persons
It's pretty kino if you keep your expectations low and enjoy it for what it is, like watching one of those 3 Ninjas movies or Ernest movies from the 90s

Sid is kinda unique in that his physical look really set him apart. So Sid Vicious to become Sid Justice to become Sycho Sid. One could almost say the same of pre-NG era Tiny Lister in his Zeus form gathering up a handful of paydays for a few mins work each PPV. That giant monster that Lister and Sid captured could stand up without the need of too much gimmick name.

He might have been sloppy as fuck in the ring, injury-prone and you couldn't understand what he was saying half the time, but he had charisma and the crowds were almost always hot for him
I doubt Vince would have made him WWE champion, but under better circumstances Ahmed would have been pushed to that Lex Luger position where you think he could win it
