I like him but I do struggle to see what American audiences would like about him or more importantly if they really buy tickets to see him

Gunther would better in NJPW, hell even AEW. But mostly Japan.
He is clearly more talented on the athlete side instead of the cheap drama actor side of wrestling.

Whenever that does happen, because it will, we will be in for Jim Herd 2 except without any wrestlers involved in the booking whatsoever, and anons on this site will be like "Yummy Andrew Schleimer kino!" and "The Schleimster don't miss." and at first it will start as jokes then it will turn dead serious as the work turns into a shoot and people will be willing to die to defend Andrew Schleimer's honor despite him being the most dogshit wrestling booker of all time.

"Higher-ups backstage" is codeword for TKO suits who don't understand that a crowd chanting "You tapped out" months later IS a good crowd reaction for a heel.
He's never the main star anyway. Gunther is an obstacle to overcome for new up and coming faces. Without Gunther, there would have been no Jey Uso.
After a while the game resets, Gunther gets placed back at the top as the final boss of the lesser belt, and a new up and coming talent get's a chance to get over with the crowd (this time Breakker). You need people like this in a company.

See I didn't think about it like that. He does leave a lasting effect. And I liked the Gunther and Jey matches. You think the Gunther vs Pat stuff was to show TKO he can work great with literally anyone? I don't want him in the influencers stuff.

Gunther was chosen since he's a "safe" wrestler who doesn't do crazy shit and usually doesn't botch. The other option would have been Gable, but I guess he was already busy.
