There's not a lot NJPW can do other than training new some talent and hoping they work out. They should also just stop pushing English speaking foreigners as WWE/AEW will take them if they are any good.

This is the actual issue. Tana & Okada traded the belt back and forth for over a decade. The only people who held it other than them was Kenny, Jay White, AJ & Kojima. Naito only got his run in 2020 and it was way too late, his body was done. NJPW don't understand the idea of giving people any time off and it does nothing but hurt them. AEW didn't force them to not build new stars and shit up the main event with EVIL & HoT for a year straight.

That's what made it so valuable and it won't ever change no matter the generation. Next it'll be Yuya & Tsuji trading it, thats just how it is. The issue you really should have is the booking of the undercard.

The point isn't that people held the title for long reigns, the point is that they built absolutely no one up to take over in that time. They had plenty of people who could have been more legitimately built up.

Who were they supposed to build up? Shibata broke his brain, Ibushi filled his role until he kwabbed himself, Ospreay and Shingo got elevated, but it was during covid. Evil and sanada are the only ones that you can argue had the trigger pulled too late, but I think they've proven they could never properly fill one of those top spots
