I'm up to April 99 of WCW and it's clear off modern eslop. I'm enjoying it more than RAW too. I know the worst is supposedly coming but I'm looking forward to Sid, Steiner becoming more nuts and Booker becoming a main eventer. RAW definitely not as good as 97 or 98 but I've forgotten a lot of 99 after Summerslam so we'll see what happens I guess.

I always felt like pre-Russo Nitro's presentation was infinitely more interesting than WWF. It felt like a sporting event and not a TV show, things could and did go wrong, but they weren't ignoring the camera's in their hotel room while they fed each other dogs or literally chopping dicks off.
There is a couple of months in the early 90s, between Flair coming back and Hogan and friends showing up that WCW was truly great, top to bottom. The Turner execs out right rejected southern wrestling, they didn't like the blood, they didn't grit (a style that has never been rejected by mainstream audiences btw). So they were constantly pushing WCW to be more sports based, but they were also wanting WWF style gimmicks for retarded kids like the Ding Dongs and arachnaman. But for that brief period of time the were able to blend enough of that southern style with the sports based presentation into absolute perfection.

vader's run as world champion was rad. the main event scene that consisted of him, flair, sting, ron simmons, steamboat, and a bit of foley here and there was some damn good stuff. 89 was great as well, with funk/flair/steamboat/sting/lex/windham.

NITRO was a better show from the start. I would give it end of 95. Yeah, there's still goofy Hogan shit, but the Flair vs Savage feud was the thing that really started to draw me and other's in.

Hogan wasn't completely hated, but I think people forget just how weird he was before Hollywood. He came off as a cartoon character while everyone else (yes, even Savage) came off as a wrestler. It's like the Codyverse. It felt like his segments were from a different show.
