Exactly. This bit of knowledge is the missing key for this whole issue. The thing about Bret is either:
a) despite being a Canadian hero he somehow doesn't know this that all Canadians know and therefore he is mentally retarded
b) despite coming from a wrestling family he doesn't know to drop the belt on the way out and is therefore mentally retarded
c) he was a snake and was trying to bring the belt to WCW
No real explanation makes him look good.
