I think you're making the common mistake of assuming the "threat" of AEW is competing to be the #1 promotion. Where WWE perceives AEW as a threat is in driving up talent contracts and taking a slice of media and live event revenue - both of which have inarguably happened.

Really though? Whose $$$ contract got bigger because they were in AEW?

Codeman took a pay cut. Punk took a pay cut. Jade took a pay cut. Stephanie, Mariah May, etc. all accepted less money just to work for WWE.
