You do not, as a business, try to compete head to head with an established entity if they're on an upswing, or gaining momentum. You see if it passes as a "fad" and then if it maintains you begin to counter with a different niche or different strategy. AEW has been around for 7 years now, they are not some upstart indie company, and WWE already tried to stomp they out before anything ever started and got their ass kicked, which resulted in a complete overhaul of NXT, and moving it to another night. WWE then laid low, and tried to ignore them both on and off air.
The fact they're now directly trying again to stomp on them is a sign they feel the company is in a weak state and vulnerable. TKO did the exact same thing with Bellator and other MMA organizations.
