What would’ve it have taken for Stan Hansen to stay with a western promotion? Fucker was courted by everyone and yet signed with no one. Staying loyal to Baba on a handshake deal until he retired for good

Alternative was, what, getting brought in to WWF, working a way worse schedule for potentially less money depending on the gate, and constantly worrying that people were trying to get him buried because they were trying to protect their spot?
Also FWIW he was a god in japan and has one of the most legendary legacies of any wrestler because he didn't tarnish it doing cartoon 80s sports entertainment

What would it have taken for him to get over(and stay over) in a western promotion as a guy with another guy with a cowboy gimmick and a Lariat? Especially since he had a style adapted to work with foriegn crowds? Put him in WCW and maybe he works to get people over, WWF he'd get boring, neither place is as profitable as the iconic foriegn heel role Baba was paying him for.

People need to understand that gaijins were booked differently back then. It's not like how it now where they bring in a bunch of nobodies to fill out the tours. They brought in top guys, who were already over in Japan from shows like pro wrestling world that Was a best of the NWA clip show.
The money was also insane, American promotions had to book around Japanese tours if their guys were going. Hansan might not have made Hogan money, and he wouldn't have replaced Hogan had he came over to the states. But he probably made Piper money for decades, where had he stayed in America he would have made Piper money for the handful of weeks he worked with Hogan.

Stan Hansen broke Bruno's neck and got fired from Memphis because Austin Idol whined about getting beaten up. His career would have stymied in the States because of his stiff style. Shit, he's lucky killing everyone's payday with Bruno didn't get him stabbed.
