I thought he didn't sign with AEW because he wanted to keep doing indie dates, and AEW wouldn't allow him to work any of the larger ones like MLW, NWA, GCW, etc. There's no point in being the Indy God if the only indies you're allowed to work are Bumfuck Nowhere Regional Championship Wrestling in front of 200 people on a good night.
