>Cole was a heel, so whoever he was bringing out wasn't likely to get a pop to begin with>Cole introduced him as Lawler's son, Brian Christopher. Most of the WWE fans at that time had no idea who 'Brian Christopher' was at all, and even the older fans were more familiar with him as 'Grand Master Sexay' as opposed to 'Brian Christopher'. Even during Too Cool's prime, WWE only hinted at GMS being Lawler's son on commentary but never really said it outright>they brought him out with the shitty 'Turn It Up' theme, instead of 'You Look Fly Today' which would have likely gotten an automatic Pavlovian crowd pop just for the song alone even if they didn't know/see who was coming out>Brian comes out looking older and a bit bloated with bleach-blond hair that no one's ever seen him with before, and wearing normal clothes instead of his GMS outfit. As far as the crowd is concerned at this point, this is just some random guy coming out to a Too Cool titantron and some shitty random dance music>Then Brian starts doing his GMS dancing. By this point, maybe a small percentage of older fans in the crowd finally connect the dots and realize "oh shit, that's Grandmaster Sexay". But the majority of the crowd (especially the younger ones) are still confused and still just see some random guy dancing up a storm to a random Too Cool titantronI'm not saying Brian would have gotten a mega-pop if Cole introduced him as Grand Master Sexay and he wore his GMS clothes
But there's no doubt in my mind that he would have gotten a louder reaction if the whole thing was executed better
