Bischoff wasn't smart enough to do anything with Bret other than have him screw over Starrcade 97's finish, feud with fucking Ric Flair of all people, and then have him JOIN the nWo instead of fighting it like we all wanted

Bischoff probably would've had Bret show up on Nitro with the WWF championship if he could. Turner would've settled the lawsuit no problem and WCW might've had at least a glimmer of hope for Bret.
