They've never once made this a clear part of character if that's the case. Everyone always jerks her off as if she's the best. Even one of Toni's promos going into their match had her say that she would be happy to lose her title to someone like Mercedes. They've never made her out to be a failure of any kind on tv. Even after she lost at All In she disappeared for weeks, no sold the loss, and came back with an additional no-name indie belt

You would think that a pay off to an angle like this would be for Mercedes to win the women's World title so she would eventually have to (as a heel) wrestle two championship matches in one night and potentially lose them because of that challenge.

Unless that is still the plan having all these belts revolve only around the TBS title doesn't mean much unless they were showcasing clips of those promotions like NXT does with TNA or promo upcoming title bouts.

Except they don't. She failed to win the world title and only holds a midcard belt. She's never main evented a ppv in AEW. She can't even have a 5 star match. She was made a far, far bigger star in WWE and she chose to walk away from that. Ask yourself the question of why she would just to go to a lesser promotion and become a lesser version of herself

Yes but reminder that the belt collector gimmick is supposed to be a heel gimmick. Mercedes is their top heel and the heat is flaunting title belts, they also fed their 2nd top heel (who's the ROH womens World champion btw) to Toni directly afterwards and now besides the Triangle of Madness there's no heat in the division.

With that said what if Toni loses to Stat, turns heel and then teams up with Thekla to take off the champ at WrestleDream? That could be an effective way to build up Thekla for a high profile title match with Stat.

Because her belts are fucking inconsistent. Her main belt is a midcard belt, her other AEW belt is a tournament trophy belt, she's also a CMLL world women's belt and the rest is fucking indies belts that nobody cares. Compared to Ultimo Dragon 10 belts accomplishments was the right place and the right time. It's started with NJPW gathered various Japan and Mexico promotions to unified 8 different below heavyweight belts under J-Crown name in a tournament. Ultimo Dragon defeated the inaugural J-Crown champion Great Sasuke while he's NWA Middleweight Champion thus him holding 9 belts. Then later he defeated Dean Malenko for WCW Cruiserweight champion at Starrcade thus making him 10 belts Dragon. Ultimo Dragon's belts at least have more name value of the belts IWGP, WWF, NWA and WCW compared to Mone's indies belts
