WRONG. Buddy Rogers lost the NWA world title to Lou Thesz, and the McMahons didn't want to recognize it because Thesz didn't draw very well in New York. So, they just continued claiming Rogers to be the world champion even though he wasn't. The WWE title has ZERO legit connection to the original and nothing will ever change that.

The actual world champion at that time was Lou Thesz, not Buddy Rogers. The WWE title, like the AWA title, began as an illegitimate splinter title which was created because a promoter got butthurt about a decision from the NWA commission.
