This. The clause exists purely as a deterrent from the extremely fringe case of someone under contract trying to do something retarded to get out of that contract. Literally every other person has been sensible enough to just either wait out their contract or get cut not have to deal with the clause being enacted. Andrade was able to get out of AEW this way so probably thought it'd work with WWE.
