I'm barely a fan of wrestling nowadays. But if I do watch it, I watch WWE. NXT is lame and AEW is weird. As far as Japanese or Mexican promotions I don't know.

The J-pop stuff isn't for me, although I haven't really watched a lot of the actual wrestling that happens. Also they sometimes have trannies and I don't want to see that.

I think that's largely true. It's also true though that Marigold's roster overall is way less experienced than Stardom's, and it does lead to some pretty embarrassing botches, although that's gotten better. I'm really excited for the PPV this weekend though. Mayu and Iyo are going to have a great main event.

Surprised you haven't given Stardom a try, it's the least JPOP of the joshi companies. They've been having more English commentary these days as well (but still no in-ring translations, which kinda sucks).
It's basically female New Japan at this point.

I have given Stardom a try, and I really liked what I saw of it. It's just a little too inaccessible for me. No app, not a lot of English commentary, and like you said, no translations. I watched the big PPV at the end of last year, when Tam lost the belt, and that whole segment was really well done, but I was annoyed I couldn't understand what they were saying. I'd probably still watch it some anyway if I could get it in the New Japan app. It's just slightly too annoying for me to watch it when I know I won't be able to fully appreciate it anyway. But I do really like Starlight Kid and Natsupoi. And I saw the match with Mercedes Moné and I think her name was Yuzuki or something at an American New Japan show. I thought that match was awesome.

Understandable, it really loses something without subtitles. Walker Stewart from New Japan has been stepping up for commentary a lot more this past month but he doesn't speak Japanese.
Yeah, I'm not a huge Mercedes fan but her match against Hazuki was good.
Marigold isn't quite on Stardom's level ringwise (even if they do have Mayu and Utami, two of the best), but it's a lot more accessible I think and it's fun to imagine where it might go. Mayu's wrestling Iyo at the end of the month.

Really excited for that show. I like Mayu a lot. She's obviously very technically skilled but she's also really expressive in her face and I think that's why people like her so much.

I actually really wish Stardom would be part of the New Japan app. I think I've heard there's contractual reasons why they aren't, but it would be great for them. Right now for me, Stardom is kind of in the same category as CMLL, where I know it's good but there's just too many barriers for me to be watching it.

The only modern promotion I can almost sit through is mlw. Even they fuck it up with trying to rip off lucha underground or putting that Paul Howard guy in matches. But they have the one thing everyone else is missing and it’s so basic it tells you how fucked wrestling is.
The wrestlers make it feel like they’re trying to win a match instead of just get a pop for their moves. Even wwe does this now, it’s just popping you on familiarity rather than the move being impressive.
