They've been getting big pops with the last few games since Cyber Sleuth. I think only Survive had a smaller pop because of the troubled development and it being a bit average in gameplay, even if the story is pretty wacky.

There's literally no product in anime or possibly any other form of media to be pathetic enough to be compared to AEW.
Of the ones mentioned in the thread, only Yokai Watch (early AEW, started strong but fell into irrelevancy very quick) and Palworld (complete derivative trash, closer to AEW post 2021) are close.

I never played the cards or games but digimon had kewler monsters to me. Only Pokemon I ever played was Pearl (and Snap), which I really loved. That Digimon game for PS4 was really good, the one the Megami Tensei illustrator did character designs for, I've meant to try it again for awhile. I think it was more a case of a Double Michaels than any sort of promotion comparison, both were over as fuck.

Are they related - I assumed they were stand alone, Digimon Story is the overarching series? I am thinking of Cyber Sleuth btw, it's with the 200 other RPGs I half finished :( always liked digimon lore (TV show) for whatever reason

Digimon Story is the subtitle, there’s Cyber Sleuth, it’s sort of sequel Hacker Memory and now Time Stranger. Time Stranger is stand alone but they all have similar gameplay
There’s also digimon survive, a strategy rpg with VN segments and Digimon World, which is more like the digimon games from PS1

Cyber Sleuth was a lot of fun, I beat it but haven’t played Hacker Memory or Time Stranger yet
