In the alleged “storytelling” (most cringe overused word in wrestling, but I digress) of the narrative, it’s pretty dumb to emasculate 16 superstars by making them pretend to care about battling in a weeks long tournament simply for the “distinguished honor” (lol) of being John Cena’s final match.
Now, if they attach something else to it, like a number one contender’s tag, or a MITB golden ticket or something, then sure. That would make more sense. But it’s still dumb. The final Cena match shouldn’t “mean something.” It shouldn’t be used to advance the story or put somebody over. Just let it be a fun farewell to a great career.
The Cena vs. AJ Styles match (and the nostalgic way they did it) should’ve been the final Cena match on Dec 13 but they already fucked that up smdh.
