Bloom came off the rose with the CM Punk stuff. Every illusion AEW had painted of itself as being this great and positive alternative to the big bad evil WWE where wrestlers can all work in harmony and no one was stepping on the other was shot dead when CM Punk exposed the skeletons in their closet and Tony Khan could only impotently sit by and listen. It only got worse beyond that with Brawl Out happening and all of the suspensions and fans feeling they had to pick a side, and that Kenny report where he shit on 80% of the roster, and ultimately with Punk getting fired. The company was humiliated and dragged through the mud to an irreparable extent and that shit hung over them like a dark cloud for years. They've finally shaken it I think, but it was so damaging that even now things are too far gone. Fortunately for them it was always WWE's game to lose since and through some unfavorable choices over the past year they've allowed AEW to regain some momentum and be viewed at as favorable again, but they're such a far and distant 2nd place that it almost doesn't matter

you can put some of the weight on Punk and you'd be right to do so but at the same time he wasn't totally wrong about some of the shit he had a problem with in AEW
in the end all the problems are way more to do with Tony I think. He's a total pushover who is creatively bankrupt.

The more I think about it the key issue AEW has is AEW still lacks any real identity. One day it's supposed to be the WCW spiritual successor. Another day the ECW spiritual successor. Another day a continuation of what NJPW was doing. But you can't really name what makes AEW distinct. You can name how it does things WWE doesn't do but that isn't the same thing. This becomes even more obvious when you look at ROH and Tony doesn't try to make AEW and ROH remotely different from each other.

Honestly, I have three issues with AEW

1. I don't like the overly choreographed wrestling and find it insulting.
2. AEW loves the smell of its own farts and believes its some revolutionary outsider when its a tv show about fake fighting
