>>19295164>What about Universe Mode? Is it better? Less buggy?WWE vidya autist here. 2K don't understand the code for it. Even ex-Yukes devs don't. Story time!
When 2K snatched up the rights for WWE from THQ, they assumed they could strongarm Yukes and within 5 years create a new replacement. As we know, that didn't happen. By the time year five rolled around and dev begun for 2K20, Yukes was told that the deal would not be renewed and to exchange whatever they had made by that point to Visual Dynamics. Yukes sorta did. 2K19 was highly praised, some anons here will say it was the last "good" modern game since 14. What Yukes sent 2K was an unfinished build of 2K18 and left them be.
2K executives are happy. Killed the Japanese contracts, less outsource payments. Meanwhile Visual Dynamics B-team (NBA Island slaves) have been told to take WWE and move it onto a new engine. No can do. Code is from the PS1 era. That's right. Animation data, how the wrestlers are ordered and even the method of how videos load. All of it was borderline unchanged. Code was older than the average B-team grunt. Plus since none of the quality of life features from 19 got included, they've been tasked with getting a game ready in less than 10 months.
We're about to hit 2K26 in four months and 2K are still stuck on the Yukes code. All 2K can do is fix what they can access. A.I, Lighting, how objects load (jsfb's are entirely redone in 25, turned modding much easier) and layer onto the 20+ year old code. But Universe mode? THEY'LL NEVER FIX IT.
I could talk in more detail, but yeah. You'll never get a game as retarded with depth as WWE and the second this Yukes code is killed, you'll never have another sports game this open creatively either.
