I personally didn't transfer over from Peacock. I had the Network and Peacock for the old shows, mainly non WWE stuff. You couldn't pay me to watch any modern WWE show. ESPN is only the new PPVs for like double the price.

If it is true, the fault is really on ESPN for trying to make wrestling fans pay $30 for a streaming service that mostly has content that wrestling fans don't need or want. And it wouldn't be so bad if they waited to move the WWE shows there until ESPN Unlimited was included in most pay TV packages. WWE fans already have to have a cable package if they want to watch SmackDown, so maybe that would've been okay. But right now, if you have Xfinity or YouTube TV, two of the MAJOR players in the industry, you're expected to pay for ESPN Unlimited in addition to the ESPN channels in your package. WWE is practically the only exclusive content in ESPN Unlimited as well. The main selling point of the service is the ESPN linear channels. So right now, a lot of WWE fans are being expected to pay for ESPN after already paying for ESPN. That's pretty tough to swallow. Next year you should be able to authenticate with more pay TV providers and maybe it'll be better.

WWE has seen a year on year decline in relevancy and ratings, these companies can see that and know that but still pay mega bucks then say they're disappointed. Fox are the only ones who peaced out. It makes sense for streaming services to a certain degree, but that's about it.

Right now WWE's PLEs are kind of like PPVs for a lot of people, in that they're paying $30 to watch one show one time. I do think it will be better once more providers include ESPN access. YouTube TV is supposed to be introducing a skinny bundle that's focused on sports. That might be a good option, even though it might not include USA, so not as good for WWE fans. It's a little messy right now when the industry is trying to figure out where the traditional TV product fits in with the new streaming landscape.

The UFC used to have characters, just like wrestling, except they were actually like that for a shoot. Now, all those types of people are gone, and there are none in the pipeline. I was shocked ESPN ever went for the deal. I bought a year's sub to it the day it launched because I don't have cable, and don't watch anything else on TV except sports, so its actually a great deal for me, but the average wrestling fan now isn't the 15-30 year old sports fan that it was in the 90s, its dysgenic, neckbeard soibois who treat it like live action capeshit and use the term "sportsball" unironically. They counting on most of their fanbase being so obsessed with them they'll pay $30 a month to watch one show.

They're counting on everyone who has a pay TV package to be able to watch the ESPN app with the same subscription that gets them USA and CW and all the other channels. But they went over before all the needed deals were in place. That's what people don't get. That $30 price is for people who don't already have cable but want ESPN. That's a great deal if that's what you want. If you have a cable package, the idea is that you'll be able to just log in with your cable credentials and get full access to the app included in the price you're already paying. In theory the PLEs should cost you $0 extra if you already have a pay TV package. But the deal wasn't ready with Xfinity, or YouTube TV, or Sling, or a lot of the regional providers like MediaCom or whatever else is out there. If they had waited until WrestleMania like the original plan was, and by then I'm sure Xfinity and YouTube TV subscribers will have access, a lot of the frustration and negativity wouldn't be here.

When was the last time either of the shows had a consistent 3+ milly rating or at least a back to back 3+ million in the ratings? Up until this year, it was simply that content is really expensive, wrestling is on year round and does solid enough ratings to be cost-effective, relatively to everything else, even if the ad rates aren't great. The ratings data big panel whatever stuff revealed that maybe wrestling wasn't doing as well as we thought. The last couple WWE deals have been pushing up against the line of still being cost-effective for how they preform, which is why you saw USA go from having two shows to one and why you saw FOX walk away from SmackDown, but I think on balance, Netflix and USA are probably still more or less fine with the deals.

This ESPN deal is where things really jumped the shark, though. Paying this much for once a month events was never gonna not be extremely stupid.

Aren't all the weekly events, and places they return to, declining? PPVs I know still do great, especially the big 4, which makes sense because you can justify that as your one big splurge spending if you're a dedicated fan, but its insane they except people to pay like $1500 to go to some shitty filler Raw in the middle of May

Tickets aren't that expensive for weekly shows, unless you're like in the front row or something. There were a handful of shows this year that looked a little disappointing in terms of attendance. I noticed several of them were smaller towns that already had a WWE show this year.

They had a Raw in Indiana this year and the cheapest ticket was like $85. When you add parking, concessions, and travel to that its like $500 for a family or group of friends to go to the show unless you live right in the city. Only one of them currently includes ESPN Unlimited. If they had waited until those deals are in place, the narrative could've been, "Log into ESPN using your cable credentials and you can watch the PLEs for free". And yes, cable is still declining, but at least if you're a WWE fan, you've been watching USA for years, so you almost certainly get ESPN too. I don't know what they expected when they priced the base plan with no discounts/bundles to be $30 a month for ESPN Unlimited in this economy and as far as I know the only truly exclusive content is the WWE PLE's themselves. I know you get more stuff than ESPN Select, but the point is the price point was way too high for the average WWE fan to want to buy in. They should have done a special tier for like $10 a month or something that only had the PLE's and maybe a barebones amount of ESPN sports content. They really shot themselves in the foot with the pricing.
I'm personally not touching it until they give it to Comcast customers at no extra charge, which is reportedly going to happen after they upgrade the infrastructure. Until then I'm sailing the high seas.

It's really not designed to be a product that people would subscribe to in addition to their TV package. I truly think that's the biggest problem. To answer your question, if anything they might watch American football (NFL), that sport still has the most mass appeal in the country. So they could throw in Monday Night Football and college football games I guess. The season isn't that long so they would have to include other sports too like I said.
The whole thing is retarded. WWE should have reupped the Peacock deal. Best case scenario the WWE network would have survived and all the shows and content wouldn't be all over the place in the U.S. (without a VPN), but WWE realized how much more money they could make by selling the rights to their PLE's to streaming services instead of still selling traditional pay-per-views and making multiple contracts with different companies for the maximum amount of money for all of their shows.

They really should have let ESPN make more deals with TV service providers, but they were so eager to get all the cash and start broadcasting the PLE's on ESPN that they counted the second nights of Wrestlemania and Summerslam as qualifying their PLE count in their contract with Peacock so they could transition to ESPN even sooner.

ESPN is still a huge brand, and I don't think making the PLEs accessible to all ESPN subscribers is a bad idea at all.
