>>19422614>none of the top guys have submission finishers anymore because other top guys can't be seen as "weak".No, it’s because WWE is an entertainment company putting on stadium carnival shows and submissions are boring and anticlimactic as fuck. Not to mention, of all the fake, pretend spots that happen in wrestling, submission holds are easily the most obviously and noticeably fake, pretend moves of all.
Nobody buys that
So when you book shit like that, you’re knowingly booking a match that will have tons of boring moments and also breaks the suspension of disbelief with fans.
Still, adding the occasional submission spot to the MIDDLE of a match is fine. It can be mildly entertaining to watch an underdog hulk-up from a sleeper hold and get to the ropes for a break.
But to book a submission as a FINISH is inexcusable. It’s the most boring, fake, deflating way a match can end.
But even then, I MIGHT allow it if they really drew it out (like, 2 minutes in a sleeper hold) and then ended it with the 3 dangling arm lifts that fall each time. At least with that, you get some sort of anticipatory build that the jobber has 3 chances to raise his arm.
But the worst by far is having a jobber lose by actually tapping out. It’s fake, not entertaining, and yes, it does make that character look weak as fuck. It’s an emasculating humiliation ritual, and it’s the worst booking imaginable for your talent.
And now, in John Cena’s final match, we’re gonna get endlessly boring fucking segments of chops and submission moves, with a match that inevitably ends with one of them tapping out.
