1.
At a point, there is an OBJECTIVE point when someone is so over that booking, regardless of the story within, the match itself, just purely the result, will objectively harm them. Now, I do think there is merit to what you say at first, but I believe there is a subconscious understanding that when people want to "book" matches, they are most likely, more often than not, doing with the guise of an "ideal" match in their head. If you can't understand that, you may be autistic.
Good example would be this, and let's use our current hot topic: Gunther, and we'll use Gunther when he was IC champ. The problem with booking isn't just the result, but also WHEN it happens. If Gunther lost his belt like a month in, no one cares. He lost it what, 2 years later? Okay, we have a 2 year build, he's booked strong, he'll lose it at Mania because it's the right time, 40th anniversary. Who we give it to? We need a babyface. Unfortunately, they chose Sami. And it's not the fact that Sami is the wrong choice, but the fact that they made Sami wrestle Gunther TWO times before 40 for the actual title, and he lost both times. It made the outcome really fucking obvious for Mania and felt a little limp. On an objective level, this is "bad booking", because Gunther gets nothing out of it, Sami didn't need to be elevated. They should've chose someone else, and we're not talking hypotheticals because that isn't what this is about. Yes, Sami put on a decent match with Gunther, so Gunther didn't "look bad", but it's still a BIT disappointing and could've been better.
Ley's look at another good example of bad booking: Bron Breakker. Just starting out, WHITE hot, spearing the absolute PISS out of everyone, cutting good promos, exceptional energy, very promising mid card run eventually. He wins the belt.
He loses it within a MONTH. To fucking JEY USO, who was exposing himself as the drizzling shits like never before.
