Tanahashi barely knows who ''Meltzer'' is. Tanahashi saved NJPW and carried them for years. Cena didn't ''save'' anything. He wasn't the GOAT of anything, really. He was booked as the top guy in an era where wrestling was just kinda there, not booming, not dead. Just part of pop culture, sort of. Hemmoeraged viewers but that was due to cable trends rather than him personally. But I do know people that tuned out because of his constant push on top. He's next to Taker as being overrated by the WWE machine.

It's going to be more consequential relative to the company he's in.
Imagine HBK retiring in 2010 WWE except there's no Cena and no Taker and no other stars, and his final opponent is Randy Orton on loan from NJPW where he works full time now. There is a "Lesnar" but he's a skinnyfat 5'11" hapa with no charisma who hasn't debuted yet, and there's no indie scene to poach from. And the world champion is like 2010-era Drew McIntyre, also on loan from NJPW, who's defending in the midcard against Seth Rollins. The biggest remaining draw in the company is Bob Holly who just got injured in his first world title run.
