In reality the author tried to put Gohan as the new face of the company and it almost killed the business. We'll see if Paul's strategy of retiring legends with midcarders works out. Everyone loved Baron Corbin retiring Angle.

It would have worked if he didn't book Gohan as a geek that just neglected on his training and his abilities after defeating Cell. I get he prefers studying, but after defeating Cell, it should've been a wake-up call for Gohan that fighting is necessary to protect what he loves.

Technically Goku was always planning on retire once he knew Gohan was shoot stronger than him, he just kept it to himself

I think losing to Jey was Gunthers Piccolo loss, he underestimated him

Losing to Punk was his Tien loss, he didn't take experience in to account

I think we're officially in the Perfect Gunther arc and he's going to get that world title back fairly quickly, might even challenge Cody (Goku) for his.
