I don't see it at all. I mean him even really fitting in and finding a midcard niche in the AE wwf really. JR was blinded by markdom, and I think Cornette really pushed him to creative too but that man has a spotty eye for booking the right talent to the promotion.
He could have had a run with the HC belt and joined the Oddities though, after a failed push.

I think he could have conceivably been an upper midcard guy who could convincingly challenge the top guys, but he was wasn't going to be a top guy himself. His stiff as fuck style was never going to fly with Austin or the Rock, but let him crush some other stiff working upper card guys(JBL, Holly, etc) and you could slot him in easily enough

What storyline brilliance is going to get old ass slow Dr Death to a consistent upper midcard threat. Isn't he a ring work guy? That period was not showcasing that much, especially on the tv.
Also in my opinion JR put him over like a fucking killer but he had no aura. You have to make that in wrestling I guess to be fair.

these semantics are perplexing me. is a main eventer the man in the main event.. even if he's not over???

Vader didn't make it in WWF and he was a bigger deal than Dr. Death. Honestly, it's best that he got hurt and washed out because if he got his main event push, he was probably going to either hurt Steve Austin or have the most neutered matches against a fella who couldn't take a Backdrop Driver.

Nah, i dont think vince was interested in him and i doubt many people would want to watch or wrestle him if he was doing his ajpw style. Which was a great physical style but WWE wanted personalities and bodies more than actual pro wrestlers.
He couldve done ok in wcw but by the time he got there the shit was already awful.

He wasn't the right guy for the product, even in his prime I can't imagine him working anything entertaining with Steve stack of dimes Austin or gay cartoon wrestlers like the undertaker.

The reality is that Dr Death was basically physically destroyed by the time he got to the WWF in the Attitude Era. If he had been 10 years younger, he would've been a great midcarder for them but that's about it. Maybe an occasional top card threat.

Honestly the guy with the best slot for Dr Death in the Attitude Era would be like Big Boss Man's spot. He could've done that because he was legitimately one of the best power guys of all time in the ring.
