Exactly, they're not PPVs. They're offerings off of streaming services and are subsidized by advertisements.
A PPV is a stand-alone thing.

to be honest, a new term for PPVs is in order. a lot of wrestling companies aren't using the traditional PPV model any more. PLE ain't the one though, that term is just too cringey and corporate. just call them supershows or special events or extravaganzas or anything that isn't as cringey as "PLE".

People say it makes more sense because you're not paying a flat price to watch the event, but who cares? It's always been Pay-Per-View and I don't see why people care enough to change it. It's like when WWE says they're 'Sports Entertainment' despite hardly being a sport and hardly being entertaining, it's like just call it what it's always been.

I think PLE sounds dumb too, but they legally can't call them PPVs anymore if they aren't offering the show over traditional cable PPV. If WWE kept referring to their big, monthly shows as PPVs, it would be false advertising.
