It was fun and it felt like you were being rewarded for actually following even though I assume a lot of the BDK build up is only an in retrospect kind of thing where Quack was able to make a connecting thread between previously disparate stories.

There were good wrestlers and the colorful cartoony gimmicks and goofy shit like Lance Steel's tag team partner being a time travelling version of himself stood out in a time where the indies were super serious guys in kickpads and trashbag pants. Similar reason as to why pre-super indy PWG is way better than the Meltzerslop it turned into because all their guys retired and then Super Dragon got sawdusted.

Chikara eventually got up its own ass after the shutdown but prior to that point it was enjoyable.

Chikara was just fun. It wasn't overproduced WWE stuff, it wasn't TNA who was so desperate to be WWE, it wasn't serious indy wrestling like ROH, a superindie like PWG or deathmatch stuff like CZW.
Chikara was just fun, you had storylines to follow and engaging characters, there were always promo's throughout the show to put over the characters.
Personally I didn't mind the no swearing rule >>19532571 imo that's fine if you promote your show as being family friendly, don't want some sweaty CZW/ROH/PWG marks chanting holy shit at every other spot.

I liked the last major storyline they were doing but it was up it's own ass when you have to find 2 ARG youtube accounts in order to get information about it, both of which had view counts in the triple digits only

My friend and I saw Eddie Kingston eating at a Burger King a couple hours before a Chikara show. When we walked past my friend said "Eddddddiee!". He didn't even look up and made a hand wave motion like "keep it moving". It was pretty based.

I've read Scott for twenty years now. I like his writing style and for the most part he had good taste in wrestling. I kind of wish he would review more niche stuff like old ROH or 90s indy schlock and not just WWF Superstars.

IMO the Eddie Kingston vs. Tim Donst match from 2007 is a really good underdog rookie vs. bullying veteran style match where Kingston beats the shit out of Donst. Also from back before Kingston was a broken down old man when his gimmick was that he was a violent asshole instead of a guy doing bad AJPW tribues.

I think the Crucible storyline could have been good but yeah. 2011/2012 was their high point but I think Quack didn't really know what to do with the BDK after a point, especially as it kept losing members for various reasons. Then the shutdown killed any momentum it had and when it came back it didn't have the same juice. Turning Hallowicked heel didn't really work IMO and then making the main event scene revolve so much around fucking JFDC despite the fact he was a giant shitter (and pedo) simply because nobody was ever going ot hire him away ala Justin Credible in ECW.

Basically they were the main heel group for 2010, started losing a bit at the end of the year but not to the point where they were worse off. They just had a lot of shit go wrong in 2011 with Claudio (the top heel) getting signed by WWE, Daizee Haze retiring because of her eating disorder, plus Lince getting fired or no showing and Pinkie Sanchez quitting for whatever reason. Also Sara del Rey kayfabe quitting the group and turning face after beating Claudio in Claudio's last match (and then going to WWE as a trainer and retiring the next year).

So by like the fall of 2011 the only people left in the group were Ares (Claudio's Jannetty), Tim Donst, Jakob Hammermeier (ring announcer turned low card wrestler) and Tursas (big guy). Nobody gave a shit about Ares, Tursas had a Lex vs. Yokozuna angle with Green Ant and was effectively retired by the end of the year and the group just kind of quietly died when Donst left it. They tried bringing it back a couple of times but it didn't tae.
