Bron winning at Mania would be the equivalent of Jey Uso all over again.

Punk dropping in January makes significantly more sense because it's a shocking title change to start off the new year and build buzz, plus Punk will get his big WrestleMania main event win that he's never gotten. They can even hype the match talking about how he finally got his WrestleMania main event he always wanted last year and lost.

This. Punk wasn't even supposed to be champion. It was meant to be Rollins still. They likely want to have a heel champion for whoever they have planned to win the Rumble. Fingers still crossed for Sami. Then the WWE title will still be tied up in the Cody and Roman bullshit like it always is
