If we are going on attendances, WWE wins easily and it's not even close.

Most people don't watch CMLL. It's expensive and even if you pay the $40 sub, you still don't get to see the Sunday Arena Mexico show, Arena Puebla's show (you gotta watch another channel for the top 3 matches from it) or any of their sponsored shows. There's no reason for it and it's complete bullshit. Keep in mind that a few years ago, they showed us Arena Puebla's show every week FOR FREE on their own channel.

CMLL really doesn't book that much. They run virtually no angles. They don't do backstage segments. The most you get is whatever they do on Informa's and when a wrestler grabs the mic after a match. That's it. Meanwhile, WWE does all of that every show.

CMLL could probably build another stadium somewhere in Mexico and expand their reach if they really wanted to. The four arenas they have now do pretty well and there's plenty of other large Mexican cities that could probably support a CMLL arena.

I found some numbers. 2024 WWE total tickets was 1.9M, CMLL is projected to sell 1.75M
So if that holds up that's only a 8.5% lead

yes and no. it's good for their model because the matches are mostly interchangeable on the card but i think it's a valid complaint from someone coming from a more american wrestling idea. there are feuds and macthes of course but they are buried under mostly uninteresting by the numbers trios matches and get ignored for weeks at a time.

The big thing is that lucha style doesn't really translate to non-lucha fans. "Lucha" style that people think of i.e. WCW cruiserweight/Japanese light heavyweight style is a different thing entirely and lucha guys adjust to working that when they're outside of Mexico and AAA under WWE has basically, on its bigger shows anyway, adapted to that style. Actual Mexican lucha matches are so completely different in overall flow and style compared to most other types of wrestling (and a lot shittier).

Yeah, lucha is very different from other styles of wrestling. Japanese wrestling is a lot closer to US wrestling than lucha is. But lucha to most American fans is flips.

The one thing I do like about lucha is that the heels and faces usually do know how to play their roles. Even at the lower levels of lucha, the heels actually act like heels.

CMLL's TV is a recording of the live product -- which looks like a lot of fun. But its not a "TV show" in the traditional American pro wrestling sense
